Lake Buchanan OutlineWhether you are intersted in Nature Conservation, Bird Watching, Water Skiing, Trolling for Stripers, or just relaxing. "Big Buc" as it is affectionately known by the locals has something for everyone to enjoy.

Lake Buchanan is the second largest of the Highland Lakes in Central Texas with a length of 30 miles and at its widest point a width of just under 5 miles with a shoreline that stretches 124 miles. At the time of construction completion in 1937, Buchanan Dam was the longest multiple-arch dam in the United States with a length of over two miles.

Lake Buchanan is very popular destination for RVers, boaters, fishermen, campers and swimmers. The lakes size allows you to never feel crowded or cramped.

Map IconLake Buchanan is located 60 miles northwest of Austin and 95 miles north of San Antonio. It is about 200 miles south of Dallas/Fort Worth and 200 miles west of Houston.

Pets are welcome but must be on a leash at all times and owners must pick up after pets. Pets are not allowed in the cabins.

Fishing is available from the shoreline. All State Fish & Game Laws apply.

Swimming is allowed in the cove and off the point. But swim at your own risk. No lifegaurd on duty.
